Who (or what) is it?
Is this assignment for freshman or no?
Yes, it will help you out with your blog points and answer questions in the field.
by the name of it, it sounds like we are either choosing a physicist throughout history and "adopting" them or the science teachers are our physicists and we have something to do with/for them
I just wanted to thank you for taking the time out of your busy lives. We are a freshman honors physics class in Linwood, NJ at Mainland regional High School. Our goal is to understand better: What you do as physicist? How you got where you are? What skills did you need to acquire? In addition any insight you can provide us from our questions. We are currently undergoing state testing and classes will resume on Monday. I hope this post finds you well. We are excited to be provided with this opportunity.
So we should login on the link provided. Then ask questions here or on the website.
Which mainland freshman do we select? The "p.3" "p.4" or the other one?
Mr. Crane, why aren't you an adoptable physicist on this site?
can we adopt one now and start asking them questions or are we going to discuss this in class first?
You scan post your purposes question here first.
i was going to ask if anyone in their family was/is a physicist. or if not, what pursued them to become one.
on a non-related topic, is there anyway to not have to enter a word and number to prove youre not a robot
another question i was going to ask was were they went to college and how many years they attended to achieve their degrees

Is this assignment for Freshman?Skylar Young
Yes, it seems as if it is for Freshman as well as Juniors.
I think its for anyone who wants to do it. But I do know we have to do in order to get blog points.
Would you give up your job for a boring, monotonous job that pays extremely well?
Mr. David Smith, can you explain what High Energy Particle Physics is? And what is the CMS Experiment? Also, what is a Large Hadron Collider?
*Mr. David Miller
His answer...Hi Kyle, Mankind has the ability to ask why does something happen or exist and for an object what is it made of. So even children like to explore and take apart an object to see what it is made of. So in the research I do the object is our Universe, what is it made of, what is it's history, what are the physical laws that make everything work. It turns out that even though earth is a tiny speck in a very large Universe we can answer all these questions. With machines called accelerators we can find the fundamental building "lego" blocks from which we are made and with telescopes like the Hubble we can see the very distant parts of our Universe and in fact look back in time to around 13 billion years ago when the Universe first came into being. We can look back in time because the light from that era travels with a certain speed and it has taken that long to reach us. All the facts we know agree with a Universe that occurred in the Big Bang 13.6 billion years ago when the whole Universe was just the size of the head of a pin. What was produced at that time were the fundamental lego blocks which as the Universe expanded formed the atoms and then stars and galaxies and all the objects we see around us and in the sky at night. So we reproduce the Big Bang in the laboratory by colliding particles at very high energy. The Large Hadron Collider collides protons together where each collision is two protons (nucleus of hydrogen) going in opposite directions almost at the speed of light. Mass that an object has is a form of energy so just as in the Big Bang the fundamental "lego" blocks are made from the energy. So we make trillions of collisions (mini Big Bangs) and look for new particles which are the lego. It requires very complex equipment to do this and since it is very expensive the Large Hadron Collider is a World Wide collaborartion based in Geneva Switzerland home.web.cern.ch/about/accelerators/large-hadron-collider CMS is the apparatus that is used to find the "lego" cms.web.cern.ch There is a good Web site called CERNLAND www.physics.org/explorelink.asp?id=4883 Hope this helps and maybe bring up more questions Prof D
Why is physics important to learn? -Andrew Nazha
Mr. David Miller, what made you choose to attend Purdue and become a Boilermaker? Do you enjoy working in Switzerland? Why did you originally sign up to become an Adoptable Physicist?
His answer to "How do you become an Adoptable Physicist? And why did you originally sign up to become one?"Hi Kyle, As educators we think it is very important to educate children of all ages and make them excited about our Universe and make them think about every thing they see and have an enquiring mine. Everyone (even with no math or physics) can understand and appreciate the beauty of the world around us and how the Universe works and evolves . So there are many programs and activities which we call outreach and Adopt A Physicist is one run by a national physics organization and I thought i would enjoy answering questions and hopefully make you excited about the world and Universe bye Prof D

Hi Kyle, The questions I like are the ones that show the person is thinking, either about the world around us or about possible careers. You don,t need to be a physicist or know much math to look around our world and ask why did that happen or to look at the stars and understand and have an explanation. Of course to discover new physics is complicated but to appreciate the beauty of our Universe can be done by anyone, bye Prof DDavid H Miller
Jenna Smith, Why did you decide to get involved in adopt a physicist? I was just wondering because it seems like you take a lot of time typing up the responses all of our questions.
Professor Donahue,As you answer my questions, I become more and more intrigued and inspired. Now that you've given your full potential into becoming a physicist, what do you want to accomplish next?
we dont have to post all of our questions that we ask them on here right ? only if we think they have a cool answer worth sharing ?

ReplyDeleteMr. David Smith, can you explain what High Energy Particle Physics is? And what is the CMS Experiment? Also, what is a Large Hadron Collider?
ReplyDelete*Mr. David Miller
DeleteHis answer...
DeleteHi Kyle,
Mankind has the ability to ask why does something happen or exist and for an object what is it made of.
It requires very complex equipment to do this and since it is very expensive the Large Hadron Collider is a World Wide collaborartion based in Geneva Switzerland
home.web.cern.ch/about/accelerators/large-hadron-collider
CMS is the apparatus that is used to find the "lego" cms.web.cern.ch
There is a good Web site called CERNLAND www.physics.org/explorelink.asp?id=4883
Hope this helps and maybe bring up more questions

Mr. David Miller, what made you choose to attend Purdue and become a Boilermaker? Do you enjoy working in Switzerland? Why did you originally sign up to become an Adoptable Physicist?
ReplyDeleteHis answer to "How do you become an Adoptable Physicist? And why did you originally sign up to become one?"
DeleteHi Kyle,
As educators we think it is very important to educate children of all ages and make them excited about our Universe and make them think about every thing they see and have an enquiring mine. Everyone (even with no math or physics) can understand and appreciate the beauty of the world around us and how the Universe works and evolves . So there are many programs and activities which we call outreach and Adopt A Physicist is one run by a national physics organization and I thought i would enjoy answering questions and hopefully make you excited about the world and Universe
